ARTIST STATEMENT: If one were to ask what type of artist I consider myself or describe my style I would say that I am an "Eclectic Visualist". This is because as an artist I’m always looking for new discovery and I create a variety of work from a traditional contemporary, modern to a digital tech style. I feel that artist like musician become categorized because it is easier for someone to market and package what you do. I received my B.F.A from the School of Visual Arts in New York in 1988 but didn’t come out on to the art scene until 1990. Two years after finishing college I began to explore the nuances of visual art with more precision. I would stroll through the galleries of SoHo were I could rethink about my creative processes, technique and genre. My debut as an artist was at an Expo at the Javits Center in New York in 1990 where I had gone by my artist name (KEM). I premiered my art work in the form of buttons and wearable art sportswear. I then realized that there was a market for my work with its style of vivid colors and animated expressions. I shifted my gears somewhat towards the realm of education and became a visual arts instructor in New York City public schools. At present I am the founder of ASG-Artizfacts Studio Gallery.
In 1990 Artizfacts Visual Arts Specialist was founded by artist Kevin E McDowell as visual arts communications hub. Its goal is to strives on conveying thought provoking concepts through the means of creative expression and multi-media.
It's inevitable... like hearing Thanos talking in my ear. It only makes sense with the advancement of AI that I tackle it as an artist. That being said it's important I think that many artists do the same. I have truthfully been very resistant do to the fact the AI now shifts the power of influence. Creative people have always held a voice in molding the world by what we see, hear, touch ,etc. Years of craft disciplines are potential undermined, hours of dedication and sacrifices undervalued with the click of a mouse. Added insult... the non creatives narrative of I'm an artist now paved by technologies beyond the comprehension evaluated by everyday enthusiasts. So the question..do I as an artist sit back or take the helm merging my classic artistic learned skillsets to the convergence. As I explore this frontier I will share my endeavor as an experienced artist....here we go!
So now as an artist that has explored AI generated images I can see flaws in the images. Yes it can create photo realism in minutes now the glitch is in the details. Something an experience artist would notice and correct. Further more its all about writing the prompts. Even if you script out in every detail you'll never know how you will get.
